Project: Sheraton Burj Al Salam
Description: Hotels & Resorts, Interior Design
Location: Dubai, UAE
Geometric patterns are the perfect marriage of art and science – mathematically precise and yet aesthetically deeply pleasing. A symbol of the infinite, the geometric form has become a mainstay of Islamic decoration, and plays an integral role in the design of Sheraton Burj Al Salam, reinforcing a sense of geographical context to the design.A complex and controlled repetition of patterns can be seen throughout the hotel - concentric circles sit alongside octagonal mashrabiyas and ultra-modern abstract angles. Textured timber walls are reminiscent of the patterns in the desert sand, while the turquoise of the Arabian Gulf is reflected in the recurrence of teal throughout the hotel. The result is an urban hotel with a deep-rooted sense of poise, balance and place.
